Nobody wants to give up on their people. I don't want to give up on my Republican Christians I went to high school with, the working class whites don't want to give up on the working class whites, etc.

And that's all well and good, but the problem is when we start squeezing already-marginalized people out to make room for those of (relatively) greater privilege... but it's something to keep thinking about either way.
