Rap is the only genre of popular music that's good right now. Rock is dead, electronica got a lobotomy and became "EDM", pop is in a slump, and country was never very good. But rap is better now than it's ever been.

I think of pop as vocal-centric dance music. I'd definitely count Beyonce and Rihanna as "pop"...

Hmmmm well according to your definition I can't deny that it's gotten worse over the past 10-15 years (but also been overtaken as party music by rap). Beyonce and Rihanna's latest albums are their best ever but they're also as far from pop as either have gotten.

I mean yes but 90s R&B was good too. Pretty much the only time R&B WASN'T popping was like 2002- whenever Beyoncé dropped self-titled.
