also: A lot of progressive black politics has done the same, by rejecting the older ideal of a “colour-blind” society and insisting upon the recognition and affirmation of a positive black identity.
all sounds a lot like "stop being so black" to me. Stop caring so much about blackness and being black and etc.

Well, I guess I think of this slightly different than he does. But I think his fundamental insight - that integrating institutions create identity that cuts across racial lines - is really key to our problems here in America.

like I said, what you ultimately argued was imo better than this article. I'm not a huge fan of yours either, but "make people cooperate across racial lines" is better than "white folks are never going to be colorblind if you keep reminding them abt race."
