We all pipe about standards and norms and rules of evaluation but basically we all see what we wanna see. Whatever confirms our prior assumptions we believe, whatever contradicts them we are skeptical of.

This is especially true when everything is dubitable, when basically the whole country has a "they" that could be lying to you. So what can you cling to but what you know to be true a priori, beyond evidence?
