But yes I actually agree with your general theory---to me the issue is how much of a secret backroom deal it was.

The problem isn't the intention of the elitism, it's the elitism itself, the arrogance to decide for the people.

Yeah. Though I'd say that that arrogance is baked into both the Constitution and the concept of primaries in general. The people aren't ever actually in charge in America

And going in to the arrogance of choosing for the people, I guess that's where my motivation question is. How much of the choice was HRC saying "I'm going to be the nominee anyway", and how much of it was "Obama left us $20mm in debt, and DWS is fucking up, I can fix this"
