You can pursue the exact same policies that will help POCs while avoiding stigmatizing them as "handouts-for-coloreds."

I'm having a hard time seeing the downside. IF AND WHEN POCs are marginalized by an economic justice approach. I'll be the 1st to protest.

But will those you got with the broader appeals be protesting?

Who cares? I'd rather they abandon me once they get their health care etc (which we'd also get) than abandon me b4 we get anything at all.

Some of us would get, because there are other systemic factors that keep people from getting proper health care that isn't class related.

I have some sympathy for this argument. But folks never reckon with the implications of this approach.

Are we saying that if we can't show, a priori (is it possible?) that a social program won't replicate historical bias, we shouldn't do it?

Yes: it's super shitty that the benefits of the New Deal disproportionately accrued to whites, & we should work hard not to repeat the past.

But the hostility to the "rising tides lift all ships" argument seems to ignore the people who are literally drowning.

Would we prefer 2 not have had the New Deal? Do we think if progressives had sunk it 4 being unequitable it would've gotten better? I dunno.

It's not about "do we get it done or not," it's about "what's the coalition that gets it done, and who has power in that coalition."
