except that Christians who see sin as a disease have hope through Christ that the disease can be cured rather than just managed.

but for most of us that won't happen in this life. Some believe it is more or less attainable even in this life tho.

There is also the Catholic notion of sin where you have done something and are impure and cannot take communion or enter heaven without seeking absolution, which is kind of how white people treat Ta-Nehisi Coates like the pope of racism, and seek his absolution.

Shrug. I think they treat him like a physician who might have an accurate diagnosis. He keeps refusing to offer them a cure.

anyway I think of it precisely in analogy to sin: that straightforward "I must be absolved" view is probably the most natural one...

and it's not bad as a mode of repentance, but we also want to move past it more towards the disease way of thinking.
