I suppose if socialism were actually practiced as "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need" maybe...
I'm not worried about the "no incentive to work under socialism" problem. That I think is a straw-man.

but as long as "from each according to his ability" produces a surplus above "to each according to his need"...

access to that surplus incentivizes productivity, no? Maybe that is bad socialism but it seems intuitive.
