the democratic party has been a terrible failure in this century. and it's because they START with compromised positions and capitulate to

perceptions about how opponents might frame things, as if people's political views are innate/unchanging and not *determined by politics*

if the democrats hadnt been playing along w/ "we ALL want to secure our borders!" shit, we would very likely *already* have a DREAM Act

and if they don't have an actual, differing, positive vision for people to vote for, the best they can do is damage control for the GOP

so when Pelosi and Schumer win something that helps people, we celebrate! it's a good thing, BUT if the small victory is all they ASK for--

THEN leftists see them (as standard-bearers for all left-of-fascist politics) as letting down their constituents, for lack of moral courage

and i would lump this in with the strain of thought that says, "who cares if so-and-so's platform is progressive if they don't PUSH for it?"

i think the ACA would have been a good compromise *if* Obama hadn't won a total mandate *and* most ppl in America didnt hate insurance co's
