Iol, yes but also I seriously think "being white" consciously or unconsciously played into ppl's self-worth to a greater degree in the past.

I think both the sense of not-being-targeted and the sense of being celebrated has declined. eg white Christians' persecution complex.

And I think they are experienced as the same thing, often. "When you are accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression."
