Yeah. For me, it was always just "Whew, I'm white, the people in power won't give me a hard time". I guess that's still there...

I think both the sense of not-being-targeted and the sense of being celebrated has declined. eg white Christians' persecution complex.

And I think they are experienced as the same thing, often. "When you are accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression."

But I don't even thing we've had an increase in real equality. I think the sense of oppression comes from availability heuristic.

What does "equality feels like oppression" mean when income and wealth gaps haven't narrowed? Equality of what?

Pride. They hate that non whites have gained self esteem. They thought they would always have the monopoly.
