Shrug. Certainly the sociocultural/emotional value of whiteness has declined relative to minorities. Idk about material conditions.

You mean, before, only minorities felt shat upon by American culture, and now everyone feels shat upon? :-)

Iol, yes but also I seriously think "being white" consciously or unconsciously played into ppl's self-worth to a greater degree in the past.

Obviously expressed as "being mainstream" or "being the heartland" or "being salt of the earth" but in a way that reduced to white culture.

Yeah. For me, it was always just "Whew, I'm white, the people in power won't give me a hard time". I guess that's still there...

I think both the sense of not-being-targeted and the sense of being celebrated has declined. eg white Christians' persecution complex.

And I think they are experienced as the same thing, often. "When you are accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression."
