I think you're willfully missing the distinction. Capitalism does a good job of increasing the amount of those things, right?
It does a poor job of allocating them based on need. It instead allocates them based on productivity, more or less.

Whoever is "using" their food most productively gets more of it. Whoever isn't "using" their food to do work the economy deems productive...

Is gonna have trouble finding it. That's capitalism. And it's evil. Maybe a necessary evil, for lack of alternative! But definitely evil.
