I think... twitter has given you an accurate impression that tribalism increases in the presence of opposing tribalism.
To some extent this is a phase, a think. The shock of human being realizing just how different we are from each other.

Our kids or our kids' kids will be used to it and have healthy cultural ways of dealing with it.

I think it's selection bias. Twitter is the perfect haunt for people who want to yell, fight, troll, etc...
