We harvest too quickly. Maybe the freakout over cultural appropriation is partly about that?

eh. Most of the cultural appropriation talk I see is about old historical parts of culture. But I see where you're coming from.

Yeah, but I just mean, wanting to preserve a special space. Something that can't be harvested by the Giant Culture-Eating Amoeba.

I think many ppl mistake global/modern/homogenized culture for white culture...an old Japanese prof told me "Japan is becoming Americanized"

But I said to him "Nah, America was just the first to be eaten by the Amoeba." And same with white culture, I think.

Ever listened to "American Pie"? It's all about white American culture being devoured by a new, modernized, commercial culture.

And ironically, a lot of what devoured Don MacLean's America was derived from black American culture.

I think the real force devouring all the cultures is not controlled by white people, or Americans, or any group. It's its own force.
