at least for a little while the internet will continue to spawn subcultures too, but yeah they're discovered as soon as they become a thing.

Yeah, I agree. I mean it's just people's natural inclination to mimicry I think. It's like... how we work as a species to some degree.
The complaint, of course, is white people and Americans maybe unfairly harnessing/monetizing that force. But I think you're basically right.
