The common narrative you hear today is that American voting is totally racialized - whites vs. POC. If that were true, I'd be very scared.
The narrative of racialized voting tells Republicans that their only hope for the future is to deport or disenfranchise millions of POC.
The narrative isn't completely false - the GOP gets almost no black votes, for example - but it isn't completely true either.
The narrative of racialized voting, combined with rough demographic parity between whites and POC, is driving America insane.
Part of the process of Americans learning to live together in harmony is the realization that voting isn't only driven by race. (end)
I think has to do in large part with the hypervisibility of black folks, who are of course the most polarized group in terms of party.
But you know, we also have one party that is generally welcoming to diversity and one party that is... not.
Yup. If the GOP managed to change that, American politics would be much different. In the long term, probably better...
In the short run, could be worse, if a slight reduction in GOP racism won over just enough POC to enable the remaining racists...
And socialists won't like it, bc exodus of POC from Democratic Party pretty much guarantees both parties drifting to economic center.
Yep. I don't think socialists realize how much of their current mini-moment is a second-order side effect of GOP racism.
