In my experience most of people making that argument - myself among them - do so for utilitarian reasons, not for erasure of experience.

I know. A lot of you have good intentions. And addressing a diverse audience (conservative or just skeptical whites firmly included!) (1/x)

Is really really hard! But liberals will have to learn to speak to diversity. The future of liberalism, if not America, depends on it.

What's "speak to diversity" mean? I want white folks w/ a clue to talk to the clueless ones, because the clueless ones don't listen to us.

Most trouble w/ the web is us getting confused about who's trying to talk to whom. Universal tolerance way easier than universal gestalt.

Sure, but if you don't expect universal tolerance from your white friends, surely you don't expect it of POC who are actually oppressed?

It's not my friends, white or otherwise, I worry about. It's the unshaven white masses who're unlikely to befriend me.

Ok but you get my point right? The language white liberals use to try to reach the unshaven white masses often alienates POC

The language black people use amongst ourselves is often white-exclusionary. I don't think policing others' internal discourse is productive

So the only problem is black folks saying all white people are racist to white people? It's fine to say it to other blk ppl?

(I don't really think that argument is feasible in the internet age where other people's internal discourse is a click away.)
