It is also easier to remove the really-existing material barriers (e.g. mass incarceration) to people you care about getting those things.

Yeah. But as Feynman said, "Science is like sex: sometimes something useful comes out, but that is not the reason we are doing it."

I think the material benefits are the reason SOME are doing it, but yeah the respect stuff is what helps it be a mass movement.

Although at least for black folks, look at the numbers of middle class vs. living in materially deprived ghettoes and you might be surprised
