"The South won the Civil War" is a pretty nuts take. They'd MUCH rather have kept slavery than had Jim Crow + 100 years of relative poverty.
I mean, is "the South" the average white person in the south? Or is "the South" the wealthy planters who controlled it?

Both lost the war. Of course, the rich were still doing a lot better than poor afterward.
