Socialism... doesn't require killing anyone? Marx in his later years did not consider violence necessary to transition to communism.

A robust public safety net can coexist with (heavily regulated) markets. Putting all the eggs in either basket is what destroys countries.

Think of it as a checks-and-balances system. If you give too much power to either government or industry, it's far too easily abused.

Shrug. I'm not going to get that deep into defending socialists. I think they have some good points/good ideas, and some bad stuff too.
