this is legit my fear when it comes to Trumpism. What if there are just a lot of them? What if a lot of them just hate us a whole whole lot?
Then what? I feel like in that case the choices are Bernieism, Garveyism, or "by any means necessary"?

Not paranoid. Heritage said in '81 that GOP shouldn't be civic minded b/c Cons do better when fewer vote. That's policy being implemented.
