It's funny though bc @DouthatNYT's weird project-y take on GoT gets one major thing right about the show (or at least the book series)...

It DOES deliberately stoke our longing for certainty, and the power that establishes certainty.

A power that is explicitly embodied in trueborn male heirs, most importantly Nedd and Robb Stark.

But because of the stature of the work of art that it is, rather than merely demolish the old order and make us long for its return...

it instead REPRESENTS what it's like in a world where all the old certainties have died off. It glorifies (and should at the end kill off)
