Sure, but it was only freer, more tolerant, and more open to white people for 95% of its existence (and some say still today).
Failing to acknowledge the legitimate (and widely understood) objection is... odd.

Also... power attracts everybody. Being the biggest and the best doesn't make you something to emulate, but it usually does make you popular

Not saying there's nothing worth emulating in the "west" but the fact that "it attracts people" is not prima facie proof that it is good.
