Expansive government programs that are not created with disadvantaged groups in mind can be just as damaging as outright attacks.

I'm not saying I think Bernie, the current avatar of the "populist left" is any more bigoted than any other US pol.

But that's the problem. We need someone unusually, EXCEPTIONALLY conscious of the marginalized, and not just economically.

Otherwise, we could end up repeating FDR. Or a neolib could try to do police reform but end up pulling a Clinton.

Sure, both are preferable to the outright attacks of our Reagan Redux Atty General. But neither will liberate us.
