I sort of get what you're trying to say, but music (read: popular music) has been divorced from religion for a long time now.

Like every Pop act throughout the 90s had to at least try to sing like Whitney/Mariah, which means trying to sing like church.
I mean pop specifically, obviously grunge and punk and alt rock and whatever were very different.

Yeah, white artists riff off of black artists for decades now; that's a given. But gospel isn't the end-all-be-all. Music evolves in tandem
