I sort of get what you're trying to say, but music (read: popular music) has been divorced from religion for a long time now.

After the 90s yes but when you had Britney Spears and NSYNC out here forced to try and riff, that showed the potency of gospel tradition imo
Like every Pop act throughout the 90s had to at least try to sing like Whitney/Mariah, which means trying to sing like church.
