basically: black folks don't have the luxury of assuming goodwill of white politicians. Hillary was well-known. Bill was loved.

Bill was first pol in a long time to speak directly to us. Younger more activist POC were up on "superpredators," crime bill, etc.

but our parents? They wanted that crime bill too! They were also scared of the drugs and the gangs and wanted anything to fix it.

so you have one pol you know and trust (Hillary) and a new guy who you don't know, who doesn't show up at your church or NAACP...

and the one you know is saying things like "fixing economic issues won't fix racial issues" (true and fits with your experience)

That was a simply terrible, bizarre, dumb thing of her to have said. It was a complete misdirection.

Welp, it fits black people's experiences in life. Hate the statement if you want, but it wins votes because it makes us think...

she gets it. And if you hate that statement so much, it implies that you don't get it, don't see the world the way we see it.
