However: while that can be a strength in campaigning, it is almost universally a weakness in a feedback-poor environment like the WH.
It's not too hard to try out messaging in the controlled environment of a rally and go national with what works best (e.g. #draintheswamp)

But when you're the prez, a) there's no "trying out" messaging by saying whatever comes to mind and responding by instinct based on response

And b) it is really, really hard as Prez to know how people are responding w/o using the media as a filter.
