can't we be 100%pro-police &also acknowledge the police sometimes abuse power &need to be held accountable? why is that even controversial?

I would say we should be pro-police-as-individuals to the same extent we are pro-humans period.

Like, wanting police officers to be happy and wanting them to stay alive, but also wanting them to be morally upstanding...

which could include being very anti-American-police-as-an-institution if that institution systemically stands in the way...

of police being upstanding moral beings by requiring the dehumanization of others.

Much of the evidence we've seen suggests that many if not most PDs DO encourage/require officers to dehumanize others.

and the cause of reform is centered on the marginalized certainly but we can also appeal to the dignity of upholding the law
