anyway, here's a thought: there's a lot of places like Youngstown, Pittsburgh, Rochester, Detroit...
that relied heavily on industries that have gotten smaller over the years for many reasons, good and bad.
and a lot of ppl from those places move to other places that are booming, like ATL, Dallas, Houston, Cali...
and obviously the US is all one country, but what if ppl from NYC just felt like NYC should look out for NYC
they did things like... making it easier for ppl currently in the city to stay and hard to move in.
super strict rent control laws, benefits for long-term citizens, extra taxes on new residents...
you could argue that NYC has a BIG immigration problem from other places in the US---HUGE strain on housing
MAJOR issues with long-term residents being pushed out, competition for svc industry jobs...
so should NYC fight against more ppl coming in? Should they care about Youngstown and Pittsburgh and Detroit?
or should they look out for number 1? I could totally see an NYC mayor come in on a populist campaign...
