I am going to finish this article but his little preamble has absolutely made my blood boil. Politicians aside, with rare exceptions, the social justice-y pundits do way better on economic issues than the reverse. This is a good example of that. http://theweek.com/articles/775583/democratic-party-flying-blind-economics …

Okay, I’m done now. I shouldn’t be so mad at this stuff but I totally am!!!

Yeah I finished the article and it’s garbage. I understand how people voted for Jill Stein now. If the only candidtes around were this backwards on social justice, I might throw in a protest vote for an anti-racist candidate. Why not?

I am believing God that one day people will understand how coalitions work, and that denigrating the successes of your political allies (I mean social justice activists, not Barack Obama) is not a great way to build coalitions!!!

Like... I. Get. It. People feel like social justice shit gets all the shine (although we haven’t gotten much LEGISLATION) and nobody cares about giving people jobs, money, and healthcare. (Except all politicians talk about is giving people jobs, money, and healthcare but w/e).

And I do not expect a poor white person to vote for a social justice warrior who they think will leave them twisting in the wind next time the economy goes south. To the depths of my soul I do not.

But then don’t expect me to vote for you if you think calling racists deplorable, EXPLICITLY calling racists and sexists and xenophobes specifically deplorable, is “condemning anybody who has questions about social justice policy.” FOH.

Disclaimer: as a middle class queer black man who came up in a heavily assimilated environment with a side of black prosperity church, if the last 10 years were good for anybody, they were good for me. I get that.

But part of the reason this shit pisses me off so bad is that I WANT a successful social justice economic populism combo SO BAD. But if you make me choose, yeah I’m gonna pick the one that seems like they understand racism, bonus points if they don’t have the queers.

And that’s natural and normal and human and sad so don’t make me choose! And stop writing racist articles that are that weird electoral-politics-only-class-reductionism and start learning how to build power in coalition with folks! Thanks for coming to my TED Talk!!!
