The whole premise of that song is a powerful, borderline violent belt on a B natural, too low to be belted with that kind of force without pushing. Then you have to flip into a pure head tone. Then back and forth.

I can’t think of a single popular music singer EVER, even reaching back into the jazz era, that could have pulled that kind of thing off consistently, as their signature song, while maintaining healthy technique.

Listen to Whitney do ANY live performance of I Have Nothing and tell me her technique is the problem. Plenty of singers make it on less technique. It was I Will Always Love You + refusal to be disciplined about vocal rest. But IWALY caused the initial damage, I’m telling you.
