“Liberal” pundits eager to express distain for Maher—a decades long progressive advocate who takes great care to present a diverse panel each week—reveals something rotten within our tribe if there’s no room for a lefty contrarian who occasionally chastises hypersensitive fools
Nah. It’s just a matter of shifting who gets screwed. The nature of a coalition is that some folks are in that coalition whose priorities are not well-represented. Pre-Obama, in the Dem coalition that was always minorities. Now, less so and more culturally conservative Dems.

I think, given the ineptitude of the existing Republican Party, there is more upside among poor and minority non-voters than there is downside among Bill Maher “classical liberal” types. And what good is winning if you get a Clinton admin that does welfare reform + 94 crime bill?

(Also not saying the policy priorities of minorities were well repped under Obama. But our increased reliance on young & nonwhite voters naturally changes the ethos of the group, is all I’m saying. And imo the ethos has changed for the better!)
