A devastating blow. Book 3 was completed 4 months ago and have been working on 4. I have retained all rights and will be fielding offers for the series should any publishers be interested. I remain confident in the series' quality and power. The reviews bear that out.

Six years ago today, I finished the manuscript on my first novel. Since then, I've written eight other novels, and I didn't sell a single one of them to a real publisher until last year. Point is: None of it worked out until it started to. But I was always writing. Don't give up.

There are very few things in the world more unsettling to me than the idea of an ancient, undisturbed tomb being opened for the first time, only for the explorers to find a lit candle waiting on the inside.

The opening of ROTJ is just a perfect parallel of Vader and Luke. Luke is menacing, demanding, force-choking people, talking and acting like Vader. In 1983, that was us getting a glimpse of what Anakin was like before the Prequel films came out. In a word - Terrifying.

The difference between being a great storyteller and great writer? Toolset. Tools at the basic level: Plot, character, setting are the axe, hammer, and wrench. Tools at the atomic level - anaphora, phonesthetics, alliteration, repetition. Tolkien working with mercury here:

The best way I can think to describe 's WHALEFALL is this: Ray Bradbury vocabulary. Jon Krakauer pacing. Chuck Palahniuk syntax. Kraus is an artist. A finished product regarding technical mastery of his voice, who may have written the book of the year.
