I've tweeted for many years about how awful Richard "RMS" Stallman is - the pedophilia, the ableism, the misogyny. Inevitably, each time I do, dudes examine my receipts & then say "all those incidents are from years ago! he's changed now!" NOPE.https://medium.com/@selamie/remove-richard-stallman-fec6ec210794 …

It's cool. We still love Stallman. He has many flaws, but no one follows him for his awful opinions. He is a valuable actor in the software world and that won't change even if he kill someone in cold blood.

What has he done of value in the last twenty odd years?

What is your metric for how much code is needed to justify murder?

Well, for starters it has to compile. I guess you should ask that to attack drone software developers. They might give you a better metric.

So you have nothing other than a sports fan like love of serial creeper Stallman.

I like what he's done for free software. But there is a bigger picture. No one should be punished for having opinions, even if they are awful.

I don't know anyone's calling for punishment for his opinions per se. Rather, they're reacting to his abusive behavior over decades, and working to try to prevent future additional harm to the people, organizations, and social movements at the periphery.

It's really bad to harm people. I guess it includes @salesforce enabling human trafficking... https://www.cnbc.com/2019/03/27/lawsuit-claims-salesforce-worked-with-sex-trafficking-site-backpage.html … I wonder why we don't get a nice hashtag for this? What about #CancelSalesforce? Let's ask our takedown specialist @sarahmei, shall we?
