Understanding Computer Networks, CPU architectures, Operating Systems, and Databases at a non-trivial skill level is a superpower. Everything that is built boils down to these 4 core concepts!

Happy Update: 🥳🥳 I've long been the DevOps & Cloud guy! I'm trying something new now - I've taken on the role of Director of Engineering at . It's been a truly humbling ride across hiring, enabling teams, and delivering stellar tech for 4.5mn students! 🚀🚀

All hands on deck, War Room, massacre are terms that do not relate to software engineering! Pulling terms from war into software seems to glorify and exaggerate the nature of work. It's a crud app and you're shit at your queries! Fucking go learn SQL and fix it. /Fin

Please, for the love of everything holy and nice - stitch in bigger pockets onto women’s jeans! I cannot be the designated mobile phone carrier for the family anymore! I did not sign up for this shit!

Yes, AWS went down. Yes, Multi-cloud is still a word. Yes, it is ridiculously complicated. No, you still do not need to go multi-cloud. And No, you definitely do not want to do multi-cloud Kubernetes!

Life update - Friday was my last day at CoLearn. After two years of building some amazing tech with the best folks in the industry, it was time to do something else. I’ve joined the Autonomous Robotics Research Centre at the Technology Innovation Institute in Abu Dhabi.

I've been talking about the AWS VPC - bits and pieces of it and I'm now thinking - should I do an AWS VPC 101 ? We'll cover: 1. AWS Networks 2. AWS VPC 3. VPC Peering 4. Gateways and 5. The general voodoo behind the world's most amazing SDN, IMO. Let me know if theres interest!

Over-engineering is a tech pandemic! If your tech doesnt work for the first 10, the next 999,990 users dont matter. Building tech for a million "prospective" users is called vaporware.

This is a dream come true! This watch will definitely outlast me. Hopefully the elder one will like it when it's hers! Next on the watch collection plan is a Junghans. #watchtwitter

Being in the DevOps and Cloud Infra space brings you in front of a lot of people trying to board the "bandwagon". The conversations around that are weird and sometimes outright drunk-bashing-worthy. I hope this management-focused rant thread clears up a few misconceptions:

What a ride 2021 has been! Started the year with therapy for depression and Physio for health complications. Ending it in Abu Dhabi whilst having built an stellar engineering org at with and the gang! Bring on 2022! More learnings! More fun!

Engineering should stop vilifying the whole "Deploy to Production" thing. If dev, qa, tests, etc are normal tasks, so should be deploys to prod! After all, every other task leading up to, AND including the deploy, IS to push your new change into your customers hands!

It looks like I’m shitting on Azure and GCP a lot these days. Coming from over a decade of my career spent on AWS, I’ve come to bank on one thing - Rock. Solid. Infrastructure.

Folks out there running tech on the clouds - time to check your credits! That is your runway! If you have been scaling with money, you cannot do so anymore. Start optimizing, observing and monitoring your systems pronto! HMU if you’d like to chat about this.. DMs open!

Parent teacher meeting in school: Teacher - your daughter is good but needs to practise her writing more. Me - her PhD thesis isn't due tomorrow. Teacher - have a nice day. She's 3 years old! #wtfiswithschools

Dear Twitter, is there a dance gurukul where my daughter can have her education in addition to mainstream dance training and not the other way round? She’s really really interested in Bharatanatyam and the current setup isn’t doing her justice. Heck, I’m not doing her justice!

So close to my pre surgery weight after 4 years. I weighed 78kgs in early 2018. 2 Surgeries, bad recovery and habits took me to 90kgs and then to 102kg by the the end of 2020. Have finally dialed it back to an acceptable 85kgs now. Now to strengthen while dialing down to 80.

So, 's class was awesome yesterday - The teachers were on mute for the whole session. Kids had to figure out, organize themselves, have a discussion, all on their own. The kind of learning my kid gets - even if just a few teensy hours a week, it's just #amaze!

What started out as a random bunch of discussions around tech and building teams with back in January is now a team of ~ 40 super talented folks solving some amazing problems! And I’m loving every second of it!

Traditional race horses like MySQL and Postgres suffer from only one problem - they make your resume boring. But God save those orgs that prefer an interesting resume over an experienced plumber!

WordPress: 810 million websites using it ➡️ runs on MySQL YouTube: 2.1 billion monthly active users ➡️ runs on MySQL Clearly MySQL doesn't scale :(
Okay, so you're interested in a road trip, have kids, will travel, but want to remain safe... Been there done that... Went on a 300km trip with my family yesterday (me, wife, 2 girls). Prepared a bunch for it, learnt a bunch more... Sharing it here... Thread time:

API responses must be made mandatory study material before someone can write their first line of code involving an http library! 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

At what point in our tech journey did we let go of learning fundamentals? How did the knowledge of tools become more important than concepts of computer science? Why did we allow this trend to be normalized and accepted?

Tiny SaaS dude on AWS “in Us-East-1”: Gaaah! Aws is down! The cloud is not reliable. We need to switch providers. Build our own data center. Funding!!! A random hospital running its systems on AWS: We’re sorry, the systems are down, please fill up this sheet in block letters!

Unsolicited caller to my wife: Ma'am, we're calling from **** matrimonial website, are you looking for a match for anyone in your family? Wife: Yeah, for my husband.. Need a nice cultured, highly... Caller: *click* #ded #owned

This is a recent trend I'm noticing. When I bought my car last year, they wanted me to send all documents required over WhatsApp. What a lot of people see as convenience is a scary security nightmare for anyone even mildly conscious!

For the nth time, your api returning an HTTP Status 200 means everything went A-OK! Everything! You cannot return a 200 in the header and put { Status: Error} in the payload! #api #rant

Can or allow for order scheduling? I'm sure your engineering is running cron jobs in their tech stacks! Ex., I want my super strong coffee - daily at 7.30am. Subscription model me paisa lelo yaar.. bas roz subah deliver kara do!

The MacBook Pro is finally open! Along with all the tools that it took! Aside from not being able to repair absolutely anything, just opening the back plate makes you feel like you landed an A380 on a handkerchief! PS - yep, it was caked in dust. But it’s clean now!

Solve for the problem. Not the tech. As s/w engineers, we're often beholden to the tech. Thinking for the user solves the actual problem. Tech improves as a result.

As a software engineer and product builder, I have to constantly reminder myself not to think of software engineer's perspective. It limits all the creativity.

1. Put kids to sleep. 2. Earn me time from wife. 3. Switch on laptop. 4. Start a good playlist on Spotify. 5. Power up IDE. 6. Start up minikube. 7. Start up Postgres service. 8. Restart for windows update!

The daughter and I are having a mechanical keyboard standoff. Who can be the loudest.. So far, the wife is losing the battle! In a short while, I'm going to be pulled up for insubordination. #morningsarefun

Anyone upgrading to catalina and doesnt have 32GB RAM and 8 core juice, Get in & disable photoanalysisd. That daemon indexes the photos in your library and takes forever & hauls serious CPU. Open terminal & run: launchctl disable user/$(id -u)/com.apple.photoanalysisd
