Really is there anything more exciting than a new metabolite GWAS. So thrilled for the opportunity to work with this awesome team Cross-platform genetic discovery of small molecule products of metabolism and application to clinical outcomes

What makes the heart beat? Experiments with the novel NCX inhibitor ORM-10962 underline NCX's role in cardiac pacemaking. Happy to underpin the findings by the Nagy / Varró group with some mechanistic modeling in our joint paper:

NOT REALLY DEBATABLE - For each 39mg/dL (1mmol/L) LDLc lowering, the RR of MACE is independent of the starting LDLc or presence of DM or CKD. Pts at lower CV risk & younger age might have a similar relative reduction in risk with LDLc lowering therapies

I think this (academic migration) is the hardest part of academia. Train for a long time, work hard pre-tenure years, while raising kids in the absence of family. And they wonder why there aren’t more

Here's my attempt to summarize the work the task force has been doing, identifying key factors influencing that we might be able to address with changes by the grad school, depts/grad programs/advisors, &/or individual grad students.

The arguments presented by for closest gene are pretty convincing, with nearby monogenic genes doing very very well for guessing functional gene at GWAS loci

This is startlingly like the advice my dad gave me 30 years ago. He said “you like computers and technology but you don’t *love* programming. Figure out some domain you like and apply computing to that. You’ll be more useful.” Which is almost exactly what my career has been.
