Right, I’ve stuck my neck out here and sketched out a credible transport plan for ⁦⁩ that is actually (horrors!) commensurate with the climate emergency: making private car ownership obsolete in our cities within 10 years

If you're tempted to think 'offset schemes' make it OK to fly from a climate point of view, read this excellent takedown by The aviation industry think it's he answer to them going 'net zero' It really isn't

New UK cars drop 7%, & double that, 14% for private car buyers. Are we finally falling out of love with the car? For reasons of health, climate and more convivial neighbourhoods it looks like the beginning of the end of the car as king.

Bad optics can have much wider repercussions if you’re a government with very testing decarbonisation targets to meet. You’re leading by example with everything you do

Even if it was desirable for private vehicle use to increase inexorably, the combination of climate and technology change and the constraint on space means motoring is bound to become more expensive. So decision makers face a choice: mobility for the rich or for everyone?

UK aviation's net zero plan 'not credible' says AEF's Cait Hewitt on 's Sarah Jane Mee show 'They can promise what they like because they are not being held to account for their emissions – [allowing them] to get the permission to grow they so desparately want'

From 1972, a GLC discussion paper on Traffic and the Environment, as relevant today as back then (when London's population was actually falling). Things up for discussion included an additional licence for car travel within Central London as well as road pricing...

“Redesigning the system so that people don’t die needlessly as they go about their daily lives shouldn’t be seen as a war on cars, but rather as a righting, however slight, of a historic wrong.”

What we're hearing again and again are recycled targets. Targets don't get us anywhere without a plan of how we are going to get there and we are running out of time from on discussing the government's climate ambition

The spate of offsetting announcements since the autumn has been driving me up the wall - with yet another this morning from aviation coalition Sustainable Aviation. So I wrote this. That'll show 'em.

Ha ha, yes. While we are awaiting the annual 2019 SUV sales figures I have done a little crystal ball gazing. We can expect about 536 thousand new SUVs on the road in 2019, up from 502k in 2018 (and 355k in 2015).
