a shade? a curtain. I'm honestly not sure what the feeling on the term blinds is but I would defer to blind and visually impaired folks

It's "dode hoek", "dead corner", in Dutch.

In my language (and several others in my region, which are similar enough) that's what it's always been called!

Was just having a conversation with some folks re: "blind spots." I'm not against using "dead angle," but I'm not sure 1. that blind spots is ableist, or 2. that if it is, dead angle is less ableist.
-
Blindspots isn't ableist in the sense that it differentiates between abled and disabled bodies, since everyone with eyes has blind spots (even me, though mine cover most of my visual field). Blind spots are a part of both normal and abnormal vision.

(Not trying to argue, but understand) May I ask why the original term is ableist? It refers to an inability to see but not, it seems to me, in a pejorative way.
-
It's often used as a metaphor which is where it primarily becomes problematic, more so than there being an issue with a physical place you cannot see

It's called that in German too: "toter Winkel".
-
In French too "angle mort"
