Inside British criminal justice in 2020 with a unique angle and unprecedented access to the courts, prisons, police on the streets, victims and offenders. Watch this trailer to see what's coming, all this week, starting Monday on BBC1 / iPlayer. "Crime - are we tough enough?"

Fantastic visit from QC, Chris Daw in school today. . He gave a passionate talk about how society could help protect young people; the importance of education and a career in law. A wonderful morning for our Yr8/9/10 Scholars and Psychology students.

Wow - that is the nicest tweet I have ever had. It was a pleasure to speak at her school today and I am so glad she has come home and told you this. The whole group of students was incredible in their enthusiasm, their questions and insight into knife crime in particular.

In my 26 years’ experience, juries - with a tiny margin of error- reach the right verdict based on the evidence.

I am speaking to students at a school on Merseyside this week about knife crime and how it can destroy families. The students will first watch the “On The Streets” episode of “Crime - are we tough enough?” ALL young people in Britain should see it.

Even it you were accused of it? Or your neighbour? Same plan?

If I was in touch with public opinion - in the way you mean it - I probably would not bother with Twitter at all. What would be the point?

Read this please everyone. This is where the government is taking us. Because of views like this. Justice is like air, water and food - it is an inalienable right, to which everyone is entitled. Once we deprive one group of justice, our society is on the path to ruin.

That’s the argument of Duterte in the Philippines. Extra-judicial killings of suspected drug dealers and terrorists anyone?

In this age of injustice, where people’s rights are destroyed on a whim, it is wise to remember what happens when the law is abused for political motives. In the end, they will do it to you.

By observing basic standards of justice, including the fundamental principle that the pronouncements of the courts should be held sacred and that we do not imprison people retrospectively. As we would all want if we came before a court ourselves. Justice is for everyone.

Make no mistake - this is an outrage. Prisoners who were told BY THE JUDGE that they would serve half of their sentence in prison will see those words erased retrospectively. What price the integrity of British justice? Who will be next? You?

Interesting viewpoint. Name one country in the world where such an approach has been tried and led to less crime. The USA has 2.5 million in prison (we have 80,000) - how do you think throwing away the key is working out across the Atlantic? Or anywhere else? Ever?

Yet another example (it seems) of the total failure of our prison system to deradicalise terrorism offenders. I am sure many will be screaming for longer sentences. But why? 8 years did not work for Usman Khan. The message is - prison does NOT work.

Trying to do my bit - my short film, Raising the Bar, was shown on BBC1 recently - you can watch it here and please retweet so that students from all backgrounds can see what the bar is really about in 2018 -

It’s a serious question and lots of people have very strong views on the subject. We want people to watch all five episodes and come to a decision based on real evidence and intelligent arguments. Please do watch the whole thing and then give us a review on Twitter!

Share of the 16-34 audience for “Crime - are we tough enough?” was second only to Eastenders. Pleased to know young people are watching a show which deals head on with the dangers of carrying knives and the terrible consequences for victims’ families.

If you missed today’s show please watch on iPlayer. Here I filmed at the scene of the stabbing of Yousef Makki. I am incredibly proud of it - we show knife crime and murder from every angle. Powerful and emotional TV, with an important message.

QC Behind Bars! Here’s one for all those who have said I should be locked up for my views on criminal justice in this week’s “Crime - are we tough enough?” on BBC1. Thank you to the millions who watched live and for everyone else there’s iPlayer.
