Two factors probably explain white guy underrepresentation: 1. men of British descent are about 1-2 inches shorter than most North Europeans, and short armed compared to Slavs and 2. Absolutely no white NBA players come from the Deep South.
White guys in 1986 were most likely to come out of Utah, Indiana, Minnesota, and California. Just two from Texas, none from Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, the Carolinas, or Virginia. So environment matters a lot, too.
I use height a lot as an example in Race/IQ discussions. There are big differences just between European ethnic groups that can be noticed even by dumb sports fans. Seems strange that height can be selected up and down but mental qualities are locked in place everywhere.
