Lee's views on slavery unclear, but, at any rate, Jefferson didn't raise arms against the government to preserve slavery.
He never had the chance. If the English had signaled that they were going to ban slavery without colonial consent, he would have.

Not a Southerner, but the moral differences favor Lee, who was considerably braver and did not raise his own children as his slaves.
