It is enraging to deal with someone who pretends to historical objectivity by asserting that the North was equally as bad as the South.
At some point in historian school don't they discourage you from saying "Society X was worse than Society Y"?

You don't have to be a moral relativist to be reluctant to condemn "the South" as opposed to a specific institution or practice.
