The majority of alt-righters do not think the goal of an all-white nation is realistic. They just want to stop the bleeding.
They try to emphasize their own moderation by saying their views were normal not long ago and are probably right.

The thing I dislike most about coverage of alt-right is that it tends to greatly overstate Spencer's importance.

The guy doesn't have a Twitter personality, doesn't write articles that anybody reads. Not clear if he has an actual job.

Back in 2015 right wing Twitter trolls argued about what to call themselves, many thought alt-right sounded too gay.

But no alternative so it stuck, which a lot of them now regret because they're hitched to Spencer's wagon.
