One can argue Trump crossed a line. But to actually believe Curiel IDs more as Hoosier than Mexican is unbelievably naive.

"Hoosier" is an implicity white identity, much like "Southerner" or, to slightly lesser extent, "American".

OK, "deracinated", if you prefer. Curiel reads like a reg. elite who doesn't watch telenovelas, who perhaps has Hamilton tickets

Unless incited or "pushed", he is not someone who would be advocating repatriation of land to Mexico or completely open borders

Identities like flag-burning Mexicans or militant Blackness have to be constantly *created* & *maintained*

The identity of regular Mexicans and Blacks is not at all artificial, will last a very long time.

For Blacks this may be true. Disparities b/w they & broader population on many measures may be too broad for shared identities.

But Blacks have been in the Dem. ledger for a long time, & as much as they might wish it not so, Rs have accounted for that.
