      Assume that America is about 15% English. Assume Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are 40%. That amounts to about 75 million diaspora English as against 45 million English English. The two million English of 1450 have more descendants than the ~20 million French of the same year

      The estimates here are taken from a 2015 economics paper which uses census data from as far back as the 19th century to gauge present day ancestry profiles.           This is my point though, that you can't separate those categories cleanly. Even in the UK many people have mixed Anglo-Celtic ancestry—I do myself. An English-Welsh-German American in 1970 will have described themselves as English.
