It's always struck me that there are fewer Jewish historians than you would expect from their preponderance in other types of writing, especially journalism. When a historical subject is interesting to them (say, civil rights) they dominate it, but ancient history: who cares?
The instinct to LARP or play war strategy games, so widespread in Northwest European dudes, doesn't really seem to be present in more reality oriented Jews, which is probably related to their general disdain for fantasy literature.

That's a bit of a non sequitur. Ancient history is not remotely the same thing as fantasy or counterfactual history. I'm very interested in the former and not at all in the latter.
I think larping is an instinctive antidote to helicopter parenting, a last-ditch attempt by the young to get in those experiences they should've had in childhood but were prevented from.
