Of all the old anthropological concepts that were abandoned after 1945 the most unjustly condemned was the idea of the "Alpine" race. The basis of the grouping was the fact that in Europe, baldness and brachycephaly invariably occur together, in French, Slavs, and N. Italians.

Other than the fact that North Europeans are lighter than Southerners, this is the most important and obvious anatomical dimension which divides the continent, and yet the concept is so forbidden that the most educated people are oblivious to it.

And what's even worse is that the distinction is so much more than physical: maybe not in intelligence, but in political attitudes the fundamental European divide is between hard, communitarian, feudalized Alpines and the unbroken, libertarian peoples of the periphery.

What do you mean by 'unbroken'? What mental or physical faculty have been damage or diminished? I had the impression that Alpines lost some features that the people of the periphery have while gained some new ones, like 'fearlessness' as you put it.
