Funny thing about Norway is it used to be hideously poor compared to the rest of Europe. Norwegian immigrants flocked to the US and were viewed w suspicion here. Now Norway's rich (thanks partly to oil) and some evidently want more Norwegians + fewer people from poor countries.

Norwegian immigrants were never viewed with suspicion in the United States. I look forward to hearing your stories about how they were discriminated against for being too blond and law abiding.

My point is that being blonde and pale was not enough escape prejudice back in the day

It was enough for the Scandinavians, that and the fact that they belonged to the same religion as the natives and voted for the same party. They weren't discriminated against.

Sorry for replying to an old thread, but
@IbrahimOShukry was right, Swedes were discriminated against in the 19th century US.https://twitter.com/Sonnenmensh/status/1362636124431163392?s=20 …I𝔊𝔲𝔣𝔱𝔞𝔳I ꥟ added,

Some were so undereducated, that the stereotype of the dumb Swede was born. I shit you not. https://www.expressen.se/geo/olson-och-hanson-bodde-pa-soptippen--svenskarna-sags-som-korkade-och-smutsiga-i/ …1 reply 0 retweets 1 like
I grew up in Norwegian rural Minnesota and I can tell you they weren't, not unless the word "discriminated" is stretched to an absurd limit to accommodate the mildest kind of teasing: Norwegians also make fun of Swedes for being stupid, it's not a nativist thing.

I wasn't alive back in the 19th century, I just state what I've read. ofc it didn't last long and Scandis assimilated rather quickly.
