In the US Jews have much more antagonistic feelings toward white Protestants, which is not because they are more anti-Semitic but they are of an incompatible character: too restrained, too childish, cheesy, and unrealistic.

Eric Zimmour, the Jewish French conservative reminds me a bit of the sincere French patriotism of the great Jewish historian Marc Bloch. In all of Europe the people whose extraverted bluntness is the best complement to the Jewish character must be the French.

Immigrants of all stripes seem more proud to identify as French than English, despite comparable achievement. Character matters more: French social courage and charm wins them a deeper respect from foreigners than the English association with Newton and Shakespeare.

Some group identities are more valuable than others. Achievement and goodness count for nothing: a reputation for violence, boldness and charm are more important. Of all European identities I rate the French and Italians as the most alluring to foreigners.
